We've already been speaking about Xiaomi's sub-brand Mijia in the article about induction cookers. Mijia is a relatively new brand, yet there are more than 10 million daily active devices in their IoT ecosystem.
Back to Xiaomi Mijia IH. This smart rice cooker comes in two sizes - 3 and 4 litres. The smaller one can easily cook 1 kg of rice, which is more than enough for almost every family.

From the cooking time to grain hardness, rice types, etc. Also, the app won't make you lazy. You'll get unlimited inspiration for many one-pot rice cooker meals.

Why you can trust my advice
As an ambitious home chef, I prefer to cook my food from scratch, without cheating or shortcuts. I'm the type of guy that makes homemade mayonnaise. That's how far I go.
But when it comes to rice, I find a rice cooker essential. It's nearly impossible to cook a bowl of perfect fluffy rice every time. Unless you cook it in a rice cooker, of course.
That's why I made this in-depth analysis to find the best rice cooker available in Singapore. Get one from the list and forget about mediocre rice.
Why I picked the Zojirushi NS-TSQ10 and Xiaomi Mijia IH
Here are the most important factors I looked for, sorted by priority:
- Quality and taste of cooked rice
- Versatility and compatibility with different grains, ingredients, etc.
- Fine-tuning capability
- Advanced features
When it comes to fine-tuning and advanced features, Xiaomi Mijia IH did a hell of a job. In the end, it's a smart device. You can adjust and customize everything. Also, unlimited cooking modes are a welcome extra. They may motivate you to experiment and try various new dishes.
However, the quality and taste of cooked rice with Zojirushi NS-TSQ10 was perfect every time. Regardless of the cooking mode or the type of grain, the Zojirushi rice cooker will cook a perfect meal every time.
It's worth mentioning that I've stumbled upon a few Tiger rice cookers during the research. However, none of them ended up on this top 5 list. The main reason is that they are slightly outdated. Additionally, I didn't find enough reviews and user's experiences with newer Tiger rice cooker models.
Ideas for one-pot rice cooker meals
Rice cookers are not made only to cook plain rice. A popular option is to cook porridge in a rice cooker, but the creativity doesn't end here.
Here is the list of meals you could easily cook in a versatile electric cooker:
- Rice cooker fried rice
- Claypot rice using a rice cooker
- Rice cooker quinoa
- Sponge cake
- And many more standard vegetable-protein-rice meals.

How to cook brown rice in a rice cooker?
Cooking brown rice in a rice cooker is easy. All of the results on our list have a dedicated "brown rice" mode, so you don't need to break your head.
The only difficult part may be the cooking time. The time to cook brown rice is around 50% longer compared to regular white rice. This means it will take approximately from 1h to 1h 30m to cook brown rice in a rice cooker.
How to cook rice without a rice cooker?
Now, this is a hard part and requires a little bit of trial and error.
For regular, long-grain white rice, the procedure goes like this:
- Rinse the rice in cold water
- Bring water to boil (1:1.5 rice to water ratio)
- Put rinsed and drained rice in boiling water
- Turn down the heat to a minimum and cover the pot with a lid
- Cook on low temperature for 18 minutes
- Move the pot away from the source of heat and let cool, covered, for 10 minutes
After this, you should have fairly good rice cooked on the stovetop.
It's important to mention that these are not 100% accurate guidelines. You will eventually need to adjust and modify cooking time and rice to water ratio.
